A first aid kit is important to treat minor injuries. My homemade, multi-purpose first aid kit is used for home, car, work, and travel. The cost is approximately $80.00. Although expensive than some pre-made First Aid Kits, I purchased quality first aid items and I have extras to spare. Here are the items:
Accessories
- 1 Instant Ice Pak
- 1 Scissor
- 1 Tweezer
- 3 Self-Adherent Wrap (2 inches wide X 5 yards length)
- 4 Big Safety Pints (Used for Cloth Diapers)
- 12 Small Safety Pins (Used for Sewing)
- 1 Small Box of Cotton Swabs (e.g. Q-Tips)
- 12 Moist Towelettes
- 1 Pack of Matches (Waterproof a plus)
- 1 Signal Mirror
- 1 Whistle
Bandages
- 15 to 20 Assorted Size Band-Aids
- 3 Medium Gauze Pad (3 inches X 3 inches)
- 1 Rolled Gauze Pad (3 inches X 2 inches)
- 3 Medium Non-Stick Pads (2 inches X 3 inches)
- 2 First Aid Waterproof Tape (1/2 inch wide X 5 yards length)
- 3 Eye Pads
Drugs
- 3 Packs of Acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol)
- 3 Packs of Ibuprofen (e.g. Advil)
- 6 Nasal Decongestant Tablets (e.g. Sudafed)
- 1 Small Pack of Cough Drops
- 1 Small Pack of Throat Drops
- 6 Anti-Diarrheal Tablets (e.g. Imodium)
- 6 Upset Stomach Reliever Tablets (e.g. Pepto-Bismol)
Ointments and Creams
- 1 Small Tube 1.0% Hydrocortisone Anti-Inch Ointment (e.g. Cortaid)
- 1 Small Tube of Antibiotic Ointment (e.g. Neosporin)
- 1 Small Tube of Pain Relieving Cream (e.g. Icy Hot)
Miscellaneous
- 1 Rolled Cotton
- 1 Bottle of Eye Drops (e.g. Visine)
- 6 Blister Treatment Cushions
The contents can be put inside a one gallon, microwaveable container.
Be aware of expiration dates for some first aid items. Replacing the items take time and cost money, but nobody should put a price to injuries and lives.
