2. Rinse The Potatoes
- Rinse the potatoes to remove the dirt.
- Use a brush to scrub the dirt out of the potato skin.

3. Peel The Skin
- Peel the skin from the potatoes.
- Use the front end of the potato skin peeler to remove stubs.
- Optional: You may use the skin and add when cooking the mashed potatoes.

- Rinse the skinless potatoes again to remove any remaining dirt.

5. Cut The Potatoes
- Cut the potatoes to 1 to 1 1/2 inch cubes.

- Take the two pieces from Step Seven and cut into 1 to 1 1/2 inch cubes.

- Place the cubes into the pot to be used to cook the mashed potatoes.
- Repeat Steps 5 to Steps 8 to cut all the potatoes.

10. Begin Cooking Mashed Potatoes By Boiling The Potatoes
- Fill the water up to the top of the potatoes.
- Boil the potatoes.
- Get a lid to partially cover the pot.

11. Don't Cover The Lid
- Don't cover the lid when boiling the potatoes.
- After the potatoes boil, cook on medium for 10-15 minutes for the potatoes to become soft and tender.
- The potatoes must not be too soft such that they fall apart when testing a piece with a fork.

12. Remove the Water
- Lower temperature to low.
- Remove the hot water. The more water removed, the better.

13. Add Salt, Pepper, And/Or Butter
- Add salt, pepper, and/or butter as desired.
- A general rule is to add 1 teaspoon per 1 pound of potatoes.

14. Mash The Potatoes
- Mash the potatoes.
- Turn off the stove.

15. Add Milk
- Gradually add milk as needed.
- Continue to mash till the milk is in the potatoes.

- Whip the potatoes till light and fluffy.
- Add more milk as needed.

- The mashed potatoes are light and fluffy.
- Get a serving bowl to serve or serve from the pot.
- Make sure the stove is turned off.
